The history of Champion Bridge starts with our founder, Zimri Wall, in the middle of the 1800s. In the 1850s, he started working on various construction projects. In 1871, he and his brother Jonathan created J & Z Wall and Company. The Martinsville Covered Bridge was constructed in 1871 and is still in use today (Pictured).
"Champion Wrought Iron Arch Bridge" is the name given to the innovative wrought iron trussed arch bridge that the Wall brothers created and later filed for patent.
They joined forces with Albert Israel Bailey in 1872 to form The Champion Iron Bridge and Manufacturing Company in an effort to grow the company. The business first established a fabrication shop in Hamilton, Ohio, and constructed a larger facility in Wilmington, Ohio, in 1875.
